Project Frida

Thesis work for my BFA in Apparel Design and featured in New York Fashion Week (Sept. 2017). It explores menswear on women as inspired by a feminist perspective of Frida Kahlo's simultaneously feminine and masculine qualities. Scroll Down for NYFW video.

PROJECT FRIDA is inspired by the artist Frida Kahlo, who unapologetically embodied a wide range of both conventionally masculine and feminine traits. At once exuberantly sexual, crass, violent, and darkly satirical, she was equally emotional, raw, and vulnerable.
The collection is a celebration and confrontation of this fluid identity and complex human experience. The eight looks are constructed in white linen to recontextualize everyday masculine garments as social signifiers of power with the capability of transcending gender. In the blank slate of a white shirt, a woman becomes a portrait of herself.
